Product Description
This release of mine has recently been updated, and 6 taped plate reverbs which were ‘resampled’ onto and off of reel to reel tapes were added! I used 3 different decks at different speeds, providing some variety in tone. These do sound different from the main plate programs and in many cases you’ll probably prefer them!
A tube-driven custom built plate reverb (I’ve named it “Artemis” here) was sampled to produce this library. The actual hardware puts out a stereo signal, and there is a nice spatial separation between the two channels. Being custom built, the plate (and by extension, these programs) has a unique sound, which is very different from the other plates in my Plates of Legend series. It produces reverb up to a little over 3.5 seconds long at max length.
There’s a sampled damper control, that on the hardware actually moved a damper close to the plate, but didn’t really have much of an effect (besides changing tone a little). To make up for this, I’ve applied a nice digital fade out to the damper control in the programs, so you do get a shortened length as you increase it.
I’ve provided additional programs which collapse the left and right channels into a mono effect. It gives a thicker sound, with no stereo separation, so it sounds very different. Try it out. In some cases it may provide a result that you’ll prefer. It’s not the same thing as using the ‘mono’ button on the kern page, nor is it something you can easily get via routing or simple channel mixing in your DAW.
Years after the initial release I’ve added six new programs which were made by ‘resampling’ the main program samples onto and off of reel to reel tape. Three different decks were used (MCI-JH-24, Studer B67, and Otari MTR 10), and three different speeds (7.5, 15, and 30IPS), to give different tonal results. These programs still sound like the main one, but sound different from it and each other, so they provide more variety.
Last but not least, these plates are skinned with an excellent custom skin created by Max Ponomaryov, aka azzimov (and recently modified slightly, by myself)! The skin allows you to select between all programs in the collection by clicking the buttons.
