Product Description
This release of mine has recently been updated, and 11 taped plate reverbs which were ‘resampled’ onto and off of reel to reel tapes were added! I used 3 different decks at different speeds, to provide a nice range of variety in the tone. These do sound different from the main plate programs and in many cases you’ll probably prefer them!
This entry in my Plates of Legend series provides more of that stunning plate sound sampled from two additional plates. Every plate sounds at least a little different, even two of the same model (for reasons addressed in the manual). That’s why it’s always good to have at least a handful of different ‘flavors’ of this reverb at your disposal. You may find that you prefer one plate for guitars and another for vocals and yet another for snares, etc.
Here we have another stereo plate with a solid state amp, but this one had a popular aftermarket electronics mod installed (I’m calling this plate “Apollo”). There’s also another of the older mono plates with the original tube amp (I’m calling this one “Minotaur”). Again, they were sampled for use in Nebula to include a fully functional, sampled dampening control. It sounds and works great. You won’t find too many other Nebula reverbs with sampled adjustable controls in them, besides some of the other ones I’ve done. If you’re worried about CPU usage, I’ve made lite versions of the programs that you can use while mixing to fine tune the settings as you like, before switching to the full versions to render.
There are three additional reverbs that were made by sampling the “Apollo” plate in a special way, using a trick I came up with several years ago and which I’ve called ‘Bionic’ ever since. It involves playing/recording the tones used in the sampling process at faster or slower speeds. The end result is that the frequency response is shifted up or down, and reverb decay time is increased or decreased. Two of these alternate versions I created here are brighter, and the third is darker than the original plate. They sound just as great and provide you 3 more flavors to use, even if they are kind of “what if”, alternate reality plates! I’m sure you’ll be able to find some uses for them.
I’ve also included lots of additional variations of Apollo, including a stereo swapped, and several different mono versions. For the normally dark Minotaur plate (the old tube driven mono plates are typically this way), I made an EQ’d version that gives it a flatter response, as well as six variations where I utilized an Orban ‘stereo synthesizer’ which uses comb filtering to produce stereo from a mono source.
Last there are 9 reverbs where I resampled some of the Minotaur reverb impulses/samples onto and off of reel to reel tape, using three decks, at different speeds, and 2 more where I did the same with some of the Bionic Apollo samples. That’s 11 total ‘tape-ified’ plate reverbs for your arsenal! These do sound different from the original versions, with different tonal balances and more grit, so try them out because you may prefer them in some cases!
This release includes an excellent custom skin by Max Ponomaryov, aka azzimov! It works with both N3 and N4, and allows you to switch between multiple programs without losing your settings, which allows you to switch from a ‘lite’ program to the full version just before rendering.
You get access to four sample rates upon purchasing- 44.1khz, 48khz, 88.2khz, and 96khz.
